Haiti Tourism Minister Stephanie Villedrouin met with her counterpart from Quebec, Pascal Berube, Wednesday for travel discussions in Montreal.

Villedrouin is in Canada this week to sign a partnership agreement with Canadian travel firm Transat.

“I am pleased to have my Haitian counterpart in Montreal and I salute the efforts to make tourism an engine of economic development of the country,” he said. “In this sense, [Minister] Villedrouin and I share the same economic view of tourism.”

Berube said he was “proud that the first steps involved in rebuilding tourism in Haiti are made with Air Transat, a jewel of the Quebec industry.”

Since 2006, Haiti has held the status of a “priority country for international solidarity” within Quebec’s international relations.

Villedrouin was accompanied at the meeting by the Consul General of Haiti in Montreal, Justin Viard and representatives of the Haitian community in Montreal.
