Caribbean Postcard: History in Barbados

Welcome to Caribbean Postcard, a new CJ feature where we bring you a daily missive from the Caribbean, featuring the things that make the region special. The aim is to provide you with your one unique Caribbean moment for the day. The inaugural Caribbean Postcard comes to you from St Nicholas Abbey in Barbados, a site that dates back to the mid-17th century. Pictured in today’s card is the Great House, which is one of just three Jacobean mansions left in the Western Hemisphere. To boot, the Abbey also produces seriously good rum – but what else would you expect in Barbados, the self-styled birthplace of the spirit?  — CJ
