Bahamas Deputy Prime Minister Philip Davis signed a $1.3 million contract for road repairs in central Abaco Wednesday.

The contract was awarded by the Cabinet to Bill Simmons Construction for a five-mile stretch of road which had significantly deteriorated over a prolonged period of time.

“As a result, the Ministry of Works and Urban Development was requested to design and assess the scope of works for the repair of the roads in Central Abaco and to enter into negotiations with Bill Simmons Construction and Heavy Equipment Co Ltd,” Davis said.

The Deputy PM said the work would be coming in the busiest part of Abaco.

“The completion of this project will therefore enhance the level of road safety for motorists and pedestrians on that island as they go about their daily routine,” he said.

According Simmons, the company will be mobilized in the second week of January 2013.
