Jamaica Begins Handing Over Houses to Victims of Hurricane Sandy

Jamaica has handed over 186 of 500 homes promised to Jamaicans who lost their own homes during Hurricane Sandy in October, the government said this week.

The homes have been delivered to former homeowners in the country’s eastern parishes, according to Lucille Brodber, project director of the Jamaica Emergency Employment Programme.

Units have now been delivered in Central St Mary, South East St Mary, West St Mary, East Portland, West Portland, East St Thomas and West St Thomas, according to a government release.

The Jamaica Defence Force engineering regiment is helping with the construction of the units.

The project began in November.
