Barbados-born singer Rihanna has donated $1.75 million to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Barbados, E! News reported.

The singer’s donation aims to commemorate her grandmother Clara “Dolly” Brathwaite, who passed away in June.

“This was my way of giving back to Barbados, in a form of philanthropy, by assisting the QEH in its continued modernization program,” said Rihanna, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty. I believe that this will have a huge impact on the people of Barbados. This was all done to save lives or at least extend them.”

Rihanna has maintained strong ties to the island of her birth, most recently signing a three-year partnership with Barbados’ Ministry of Tourism to exclusively promote travel to the country.

“I want each and every visitor to this beautiful island to experience what makes this destination different from all others and that is the spirit and warmth of my fellow Barbadians,” she said at the time.
