Haiti President Michel Martelly has received the credentials of incoming Chilean Ambassador Raul Fernandez Daza.
Daza, the former Consul General of Chile in Chicago, was recently appointed by Chilean President Sebastian Pinera.
The presentation ceremony in Port-au-Prince Monday included a discussion on areas of potential cooperation between Haiti and Chile, along with potential business opportunities for Chile in Haiti, according to a statement from the National Palace.
Daza also said that Chile’s President would be making an official visit to Haiti, although he did not reveal an exact date. The President will reportedly be joined by a delegation of Chilean businessmen.
Chile has been increasing its engagement with the Caribbean in recent years, most notably at the second-ever CARICOM-Chile Joint Commission in Santiago in February.
