Boat Carrying 127 Haitian Nationals Intercepted by Turks and Caicos Police

A sloop carrying 127 Haitian nationals was intercepted early Sunday morning by the Royal Turks and Caicos Police Force, the government said in a statement.

The boat, which was intercepted at 2:27AM by the police force’s marine arm, contained 104 men and 23 women.

The Haitians were escorted to South Base in TCI. They were then were met on arrival by the Immigration Department Task Force Team, members of the police force, representatives from the Red Cross, the Ministry of Health, Customs, the TCI Human Commissioner and other agencies.

The government said it would provide further details on Monday on what it called an “illegal sloop.”
