Haiti Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe met Friday with a delegation from Brazil’s National Congress in Port-au-Prince.

The delegation included members of Brazil’s Chamber of Deputies.

The talks included discussions over potential incentives to attract Brazilian companies to invest in Haiti, the sharing of Brazil’s legislative experience, funding Haiti’s National Police and Haiti’s proposal of creating a special unit within the Haitian National Police to respond to natural disasters.

They also covered the process of holding elections in Haiti, something Lamothe told Caribbean Journal earlier this week was “moving forward.”

Brazil has pledged $1 million to support the planned elections, the country’s Ambassador to Haiti said in July.

Brazil’s latest project in Haiti is a four-year, joint initiative with the United Nations to support cotton farmers in Haiti and several other regional countries.
