Rum Journal: At Miami Beach’s Juvia, the Art of the Mojito

NEXT WEEK brings Art Basel Miami, the annual celebration of the art world in South Florida.

And one of the spots that’s sure to attract the sojourning art lovers is Juvia, the restaurant and lounge high above the Herzog & de Meuron-designed 1111 Lincoln complex on Miami Beach’s Lincoln Road.

Juvia, owned by husband and wife restaurateurs Jonas and Alexandra Millan, offers an unparalleled panoramic view of the expanse of Miami Beach.

The restaurant is helmed by a Nobu alum, Chef Sunny Oh, but we’re particularly interested in the bar, and a different kind of art — that is, the art of the cocktail.

And Juvia offers a signature Mojito, the unofficial drink of Miami.

So here is the recipe for Juvia’s Mojito Oh My:

Ingredients

Fresh mint
Lime
.5 oz simple syrup
1.5 oz Bacardi Superior Rum
1.5 oz Ripe Agave Lime Sour
Sparking soda or water

Directions

Lightly muddle 10 mint leaves with a couple small pieces of lime. Add 0.5oz of simple syrup, 1.5oz of Bacardi Superior rum and 1.5oz of Ripe Agave Lime Sour over ice and shake it. Pour it in a Collins glass and top it with Perrier. Garnish with a lime wedge.

Here’s to art.
