Grenada is highlighting its dive sector in the country’s latest tourism push, something Tourism Minister George Vincent called the tri-island state’s “most mature” market.

In 2012, Grenada was named the wreck diving capital of the Caribbean by Scuba Diving magazine’s reader’s choice awards. Its Underwater Sculpture Park (pictured above) was recently named a “Wonder of the World” by National Geographic.

“Of all Grenada’s niche markets, scuba diving is arguably the most mature and has the most extensive infrastructure,” said Tourism Minister Dr George Vincent. “We are proud that are dive product has received accolades from such prestigious publications as National Geographic and Scuba Diving Magazine and hope that the specials our hotels and dive operators are offering will entice even more divers to experience all that Grenada has to offer, both below and above the surface.”

A number of Grenada’s resorts are now offering dive packages. The True Blue Bay Resort, Coyaba Beach Resort and Calabash Hotel all have on-site dive operators.

A fourth, Flamboyant Hotel & Villas, has partnered with Dive Grenada on a package as well.

In an interview last month, Vincent told Caribbean Journal that his Ministry was “focused” on dive tourism, calling Grenada “the Caribbean’s best rec dive destination.”
