Grenada will launch a climate change adaptation project in 2013, the government announced.
The four-year plan, which is being funded by a grant from the German government to the tune of up to $6.5 million USD, is called the “Programme of Integrated Adaptation Strategies in Grenada.”
It will focus on coastal zone management, water resource management, institutional strengthening and capacity building.
One of the priorities will be so-called “community adaptation projects,” including programmes in the agriculture sector as a response to the potential impacts of climate change from extreme weather events.
A two-member delegation from German International Cooperation (GIZ) met this week with officials from Grenada’s Ministry of Environmen to finalize the plans.
It follows a concept agreement for the project signed by Grenada and Germany in 2011.
