American Airlines will be re-introducing a fourth flight to Grenada beginning next week, the government announced this week.

The move comes after American had announced a reduction in its schedule in September, citing a decrease in demand for seats.

Tourism Minister Sen George Vincent welcomed the move.

“American Airlines is really keen on the load factors at this time of year, and we can only attribute this to hard work in marketing the country and the efforts of the Grenada Airlift Committee,” he said.

American will operate four inbound flights to the country on Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, along with outbound flights on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturay.

The airline reportedly could increase the number to five by the spring of 2013 if market conditions remain “favourable.”

The country’s tourism sector recently got a significant boost with the announced entry of Sandals to the former LaSource resort.
