The results from Friday’s election in Turks and Caicos have been confirmed following a recount held Monday.

The Progressive National Party finished with eight seats in the House of Assembly, with the People’s Democratic Movement finishing with seven seats.

Now, PNP Leader Rufus Ewing will write to Governor Ric Todd stating his belief that his party can form a government, making Ewing the territory’s next Premier.

PDM Leader Oswald Skippings, who requested the recount of the All Island vote, was not elected to the new government, meaning the party will need to appoint a new leader from its group of elected members.

Following the recount, a series of steps remain to form the new government. Todd will request the names of the PNP’s intended ministers and portfolios, and the Premier will then be sworn in.

Next, Todd will propose the date of the first Cabinet meeting, which is intended to take place this week, before Wednesday.

While a provisional date of Friday, Nov. 19 has been set to recall the House of Assembly, it is still subject to confirmation by the Cabinet.
