A Grenadian national was among the fatalities from Hurricane Sandy in the New York area, according to the Grenada Consulate in New York.

Eden Jolly, believed to be in his 60s, was a native of Sauteurs, St Patrick, Grenada. He reportedly drowned in flood water in Far Rockaway, Queens last Monday.

“It’s with great sadness we inform nationals about this tragic incident,” said Consul General Derrick James. “On behalf of the Grenadian community, I want to express sympathies to the family of Mr Jolly.”

The news came as James, the Consulate and the diaspora organization GRENCAP United toured areas in Brooklyn damaged by the storm.
