Dominica’s government is pushing to improve the hotel stock on the island, according to Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.

Skerrit was speaking to a group of overseas nationals this week.

Construction is already underway on the Cabrits hotel, a 65-room project that is being funded by the Moroccan government in Portsmouth.

But Skerrit said Dominica has decided to partner with a “major hotel chain” on a project in the Woodford Hill community.

“We have stepped forward, and very soon again we will be partnering with Six Senses for this major project in Woodford Hill,” he said. “We are looking for people to manage the hotel for us — we are not interested in managing the hotel. People who have skills and who have competencies in hotel management will be given an opportunity to manage the hotel. Our interest is to create jobs and economic activity.”
