The death count in Haiti from Hurricane Sandy has reached 16, according to Haiti’s Office of Civil Protection.

Of those, seven people were killed in Haiti’s South department, with eight in the West and one in Grand-Anse.

Five members of one family were killed due to the destruction of a home from a landslide in Grand-Goave – the five included a mother and four children.

On Thursday night, Haiti Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe said that the government would be allocating 221 million gourdes, or about $5.24 million to help those affected in the five areas hit hardest by the storm: West, South, Southeast, Nippes and Grand-Anse.
