The Dominican Republic has received a firearms marking machine from the Organization of American States, part of a regional effort to tackle the growing problem of illicit arms trafficking.

The OAS has now implemented the programme, called “Promoting Firearms Marking in Latin America and the Caribbean,” in 25 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The donation, which was funded by the government of the United States, was presented during a ceremony in Santo Domingo.

The OAS also presented a computer to the Dominican Republic’s government to facilitate the record keeping of marked firearms.

The organization signed a firearms marking agreement with the Dominican Republic in April.
