The Caribbean Tourism Organization, which concluded its State of the Industry conference last week in St Kitts, has big plans for the region: to make the Caribbean the “most desirable, year-round, warm-weather destination by 2017.”

That was the vision approved by the CTO’s Board of Directors and Council of Ministers and Commissioners of Tourism last week, one which will be implemented in part by new Chairman Beverly Nicholson-Doty.

It comes after a review of the organization recently conducted by corporate strategy consulting firm McKinney Rogers.

“This vision helps us focus on achieving our very important objective within a realistic timeline, while continuing to provide strategic leadership in tourism,” said Hugh Riley, the CTO’s Secretary General.

The Barbados-based CTO will accordingly focus on areas like sustainable tourism, human resource development and others.

It also revealed a “renewed purpose”: “Leading Sustainable Tourism — One Sea, One Voice, One Caribbean.”
