Dominican Republic Shaken by 4.4-Magnitude Earthquake Near Samana

The Dominican Republic was shaken Sunday by a 4.4-magnitude earthquake approximately 30 kilometres east off the coast of Samana, according to the United States Geological Survey.

The quake, which occurred at 9:46 PM local time on Sunday, was about 48 kilometres north of El Seybo and 53 kilometres north-northeast of Hato Mayor.

There were reports of light-to-moderate shaking on the country’s northeastern peninsula, along with weak-to-light shaking as far away as Santo Domingo, which is about 136 kilometres south of the epicentre.

There were not yet reports of any injuries or damage to property.
