Haiti recently hosted a technical mission from the Organization of American States led by Assistant Secretary General Albert Ramdin.
The delegation proposed new projects to help Haiti’s government in areas including trade, investment, security, social affairs and government.
“We believe in a comprehensive approach to development in Haiti,” Ramdin said. “In this regard, we hope that the government will work with all stakeholders to ensure that stability continues. To this end, we are looking forward to the holding of partial senate elections which are overdue.”
The OAS said senior government ministers in Haiti will be heading to Washington, DC for a visit in early 2013 to meet with the country’s international partners.
Ramdin was joined on the trip by representatives from Inter-American agencies including the PAHO, the PADF, the IICA and others, including several OAS departments.
The OAS ASG held talks with the president of Haiti’s Senate and Chamber of Deputies, along with MINUSTAH officials.
The two sides discussed the range of projects being carried out by the OAS in Haiti.
Ramdin’s visit also included an address to a forum on the inclusion of people with disabilities in Haiti, where he urged stakeholders to ensure handicapped-accessible construction in the country.
He also visited the Ste Trinite music school, where a donation was made to support the school for one year.
