Trinidad Swears in New Justice Minister

Trinidad and Tobago has sworn in attorney Christlyn Moore as the country’s new Justice Minister.

Moore is replacing former Justice Minister Herbert Volney, whose appointment was revoked last month following a controversy over the passing of Section 34 of the Administration of Justice (Indictable Offences) Act.

As an attorney, her clients have included Trinidad Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and Attorney General Anand Ramlogan.

“It is quite telling that among my clients would have been listed the Attorney General and the Prime Minister,” she said. “Not many attorneys can boast of a clientele so august.”

Moore was sworn-in by Acting President Timothy Hamel-Smith; President George Maxwell Richards was out on vacation during the ceremony.

“Her reputation for competence and hard work in her professional undertakings are legend,” Persad-Bissessar said. “This, combined with her amiable personality, suggests to me it would be a recipe for success.”
