Jamaica will soon host a group of officials from the International Monetary Fund for what could be the “concluding round” of talks between the two sides.

The talks will begin Monday, with the team arriving in Jamaica this weekend. The IMF team will be in Jamaica until Oct. 5., according to Jamaica Finance Minister Dr Peter Phillips, who said the government has “every intention [of] doing all that it can” to ensure that this would be the final round of negotiations.

According to Phillips, the government is hoping to secure an agreement that could extend beyond three years.

He said there is “no delay” in drafting an agreement with the fund, and that, contrary to speculation, the timetable “remains on track.”

Phillips was speaking at a Jamaica House briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister.
