Haiti President Michel Martelly inaugurated the new National School of Anse-a-Veau Thursday.

The school was built with funding from the World Bank in the amount of just under $360,000 USD from the bank’s Economic and Social Fund Project.

It includes six classrooms, an administrative block, a bathroom, a dining room and facilites that can be used as a disaster shelter.

The project was completed in seven months. Haiti’s government said it added 1,450 jobs to the local Nippes department.

Martelly was joined by Education Minister Pierre Winnower, advisor Florentino Latortue and MP Wilner Guervil, among others.

Member of Parliament Wilner Guervil said the school came in an area that had been traditionally neglected by previous governments in Haiti.

The school will house 320 boys and 329 girls for a total of 649 students.
