Ivan Simonovic, the United Nations Deputy Secretary General for Human Rights, began a visit to Haiti Wednesday, the world body announced.

The trip will focus on assessing the human rights challenges in Haiti through meetings with the government, UN officials, the international community and Haitian civil society.

Simonovic’s tour had originally been scheduled for Aug. 22, but it was postponed due to Tropical Storm Isaac.

Simonovic’s four-day tour will include meetings with Haiti Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe, Senate President Simon Dieuseul Desras, President of the Lower House, Levaillant Louis Jeune, along with MINUSTAH officials, among others.

The Security Council is reviewing its mandate in Haiti, which expires in October.
