The ORganization of America State’s Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission will launch Trinidad’s first pilot Drug Treatment Court this week.

The courts are an alternative to incarceration for people with addiction problems who have committed “minor” offences.

The ceremony on Tuesday will be attended by OAS Assistant Secretary General Albert Ramdin, Chief Justice Ivor Archie, National Security Minister Jack Warner and other officials.

There are already two such pilot projects in Jamaica.
