Haiti’s government is condemning the murder of Serge Luc Bernard, the president of the University of Port-au-Prince.

Bernard was killed in a shooting on Friday, the government said.

He was also the administrative director of the Haitian National Commission for Cooperation with UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.

In a statement, Haiti’s Ministry of Education and Vocational Training condemned what it called a “heinous” act.

The Ministry “salutes his memory and presents its condolences to his bereaved family, the staff of the CNHCU, the University of Port-au-Prince, the academic community and all his friends.”

Bernard’s murder came a few weeks after the murder of Clover Graham, a Jamaican who similarly worked with the United Nations.

Graham was abducted and murdered in Jamaica late last month.
