Isaac Death Toll Rises to Eight in Haiti

By the Caribbean Journal staff

The death toll from Tropical Storm Isaac has risen to eight, according to the country’s Civil Protection office.

Three of the deceased were children. The latest death was caused by someone killed in a landslide in Dondon, the office said in a statement.

The office is part of Haiti’s National System of Disaster and Risk Management.

The toll came after an initial report of three deaths from the storm, which came to Haiti on Friday.

Haiti was experiencing a series of power outages and downed power lines, according to a government bulletin.

Several areas in the country were without power, Haiti’s EDH utility said, and was working to restore it in those affected.
