Jamaican Member of Parliament for West Portland Daryl Vaz has resigned as the Shadow Minister for Information and Communication Technology and Digital Society Development following a charge of breaking an anti-corruption law.

Vaz, Jamaica’s former Information and Telecommunications Minister, has been accused, along with Senior Police Superintendent James Forbes of corruption regarding alleged interaction with a police traffic stop involving a third party.

Vaz said he was simply inquiring about a police case against a friend.

The charges come under Jamaica’s Corruption Prevention Act.

Vaz and Forbes have denied wrongdoing.
