Haiti President Michel Martelly will make an official visit to Japan next week, his office announced Thursday.

The trip four-day trip will begin Aug. 27.

Martelly will be joined by First Lady Sophia Martelly.

The trip will look to “strengthen the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries,” according to a statement.

Haiti’s President will meet with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda and Speaker of the House Takahiro Yokomichi during the trip.

He will also participate in a working lunch with Japanese investors organized by the Inter-American Development Bank.

Martelly will additionally take a trip to the Tohoku region, where he will lay a wreath in memory of the victims of Japan’s devastating earthquake of March 2011.
