Haiti Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe convened an emergency meeting of Haiti’s National Disaster Risk Management System as Tropical Storm Isaac continued its move in Haiti’s direction.

Lamothe, who is chairman of the Disaster Risk Management System, said he would mobilize the “maximum” number of members of the government to take on what he called urgent measures to cope with the “imminent passage” of the storm over the country.”

Isaac, which is currently a tropical storm, is projected to become a hurricane as it passes through Haiti.

Lamothe called on Haitians to “carefully follow” the instructions of the country’s authorities.

The storm has much of the Caribbean on alert as it continues to barrel forward.
