Haiti President Michel Martelly has appointed Haitian businessman Gregory Mevs as the co-chair of the Presidential Advisory Council on Economic Growth and Investment, the National Palace announced in a statement.

Members of the Presidential Investment Advisory Board include former Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar and singer Wyclef Jean.

The stated aim of the Advisory Council is to develop “innovative strategies to attract foreign direct investment in Haiti, supporting public administration and removing the obstacles to free growth,” according to the government.

The council held its first session in September 2011 in New York. It was launched by Martelly and former United States President Bill Clinton, who has been actively working in Haiti for several years.

Current Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe was a former co-chair of the Council.
