Cuba’s medal count now totals seven, following a silver medal by Yarisley Silva in the women’s pole vault competition Monday.

The 25-year-old native of Pinar del Rio took silver after finishing second to the United States’ Jennifer Suhr.

Cuba (ranked 15th overall) still leads the Caribbean with seven medals, followed by Jamaica (25th overall), which has four medals after thoroughly dominating the early portion of the track competition.

Cuba has three golds, three silvers and one bronze. Jamaica has two golds, one silver and one bronze.

The Dominican Republic (35th overall) is currently third in the region with one gold and one silver. The former was one by New York native Felix Sanchez in a surprising victory in the men’s 400m hurdles.

In fourth place in the Caribbean is Grenada (tied for 38th), which won its first-ever medal Monday night thanks to newly-crowned 400m superstar Kirani James, who took home the gold medal with a Caribbean-best time.

Cuba’s Mijain Lopez Nunez took home gold Monday in the men’s 120kg Greco-Roman wrestling.
