By the Caribbean Journal staff

Felix Sanchez won the gold medal for the Dominican Republic in the final of the 400-metre men’s hurdles.

It ended up as a rather easy victory for the 34-year-old Sanchez, who finished with room to spare in a time of 47.63.

The race marked the fastest time he had run since 2004, when he won the gold medal in Athens.

The United States’ Michael Tinsley took the silver in 47.91, a personal best.

Sanchez, who was born in New York City, won the first medal of the games for the Dominican Republic.

Puerto Rico’s Javier Culson won the bronze, after a very strong 2012 that had many predicting victory. He finished in 48.10.

The race featured a Caribbean contingent including Sanchez, Trinidad’s Jehue Gordon and Jamaica’s Leford Green in addition to Culson.
