St Lucia Senator Dr Ubaldus Raymond has resigned his government positions and says he be assuming the post of Chief Economist of the Turks and Caicos Islands, St Lucia’s government said in a statement.

Raymond, who was also St Lucia’s Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Commerce, Business Development, Investment and Consumer Affairs, holds a PhD from Howard University in Washington DC.

Raymond has also previously served as an economist for Washington DC’s Department of the Environment and for the city’s Public Service Commission.

In a statement, St Lucia Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony said he had “regretfully accepted” Raymond’s resignation.

The St Lucian leader said he wished Raymond “the very best in his new position and is confident that he will continue to make our country proud.”

Stephen Pollard had been serving as the Turks and Caicos’ interim Chief Economist.

A Turks and Caicos government spokesperson told Caribbean Journal she was not aware of the appointment, however.
