A group of 320 Haitian officials will undertake a course in the management of public purchases through a new initiative from the Inter-American Development Bank and the Organization of American States.
The course looks to improve Haiti’s public administration, a major stated priority of the two organizations.
The programme was officially launched Friday in Port-au-Prince at a ceremony attended by Haiti Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe.
Also on hand were Hulze Adolphe, the coordinator of Haiti’s National Commission of Public Purchases, OAS Special Representative in Haiti Frederic Bolduc and IDB Representative Eduardo Almeida.
Haiti and its National Contracting Commission selected those officials who will take part in the course, which will be taught online in French.
The IDB is financing the initiative, supported by the OAS’ Virtual Campus Programme.
The idea behind the plan is that proper management of government purchases in Haiti will allow the saving of more valuable resources to be used for other investment projects, according to the OAS.
