Montserrat Development Corporation Names New Board of Directors

The Montserrat Development Corporation has named a new board of directors to help execute the company’s mandate of driving private sector growth.

Its incoming chairman will be John Ryan, a local Montserratian businessman and former Financial Secretary for Montserrat’s government.

Also on the board will be former MDC Chairman Kenneth Scotland, Oral Martin, Mahesh Valechha, Angela Greenaway, Kato Kimbugwe and John Cox as the board’s ex officio members.

Kimbugwe is the representative of the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development, while Greenaway is the representative of Montserrat’s government.

The cabinet recently approved a revised mandate for the MDC, including acting as master developer for the Little Bay and Carr’s Bay projects; securing local and foreign investment to support the growth of tourism in Montserrat; providing business development support to the private sector and implementing trade and investment promotion activities, among other charges.

John Cox will be assigned to the MDC to continue overseeing the buildout of the island’s master plan.

The MDC’s board, along with government and DFID officials, aim to develop a business plan for the future sustainability of the corporation by March 2013.

They board has been appointed for a term that expires in March 2014.
