Mariano Fernandez Amunategui, the special representative for United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in Haiti, is hailing the move by authorities to implement a new council on judicial power this week.

“This event represents a step towards the consolidation of Haitian institutions and anchoring of Haiti in a sustainable political stability,” Fernandez said in a statement.

The MINUSTAH chief said what he called a “constructive” prevailing climate between the three branches of Haiti’s government should pave the way for the country’s next elections.

Fernandez said the UN would “spare no effort” to continue support Haiti’s institutions, and that he would use his office to help put Haiti on the path to political stability and a sustainable economic development.
