The governments of Haiti and Mexico have signed a Memorandum of Understanding focusing on the tourism sector.

The signing took place Wednesday in Mexico City.

Haiti Ambassador to Mexico Guy Lamothe signed the agreement on behalf of Haiti Tourism Minister Stephanie Villedrouin.

Mexican Secretary of Tourism Gloria Guevara Manzo signed on behalf her country.

As part of the agreement, specialists from Mexican organization FONATUR will soon visit Haiti to provide technical support for Haiti’s Ministry of Tourism.

FONATUR is Mexico’s National Trust of Tourism Development, a government agency which looks to foster growth in the sector.

Mexico has been heavily invested in the reconstruction of Haiti in the two years since the January 2010 earthquake.

At the Caricom-Mexico Summit in Bridgetown in May, the country signed an agreement with the Caribbean Community to provide technical assistance to Haiti.
