St Lucia Prime Minister Kenny Anthony Takes Over as CARICOM Chair

St Lucia Prime Minister Dr Kenny Anthony has officially assumed the role of chair of CARICOM.

He succeeds Suriname President Desire Bouterse, who just completed his six-month term.

Anthony will preside over his first meeting of Heads of Government of CARICOM Wednesday at the Sandals Grande in St Lucia.

That ceremony will include the conferment of CARICOM’s highest honour, the Order of the Caribbean Community, on Kamaluddin Mohammed of Trinidad and Tobago, the country’s former Minister of West Indian Affairs.

Attendees will include Guyana President Donald Ramotar, Bahamian Prime Minister Perry Christie and Jamaican Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, among others.

The talks conclude Friday, July 6.
