Dominican Republic’s Fernandez, Medina Meet in Santo Domingo

Dominican Republic President Leonel Fernandez and President-Elect Danilo Medina held met and had lunch at the National Palace in Santo Domingo Tuesday.

They were joined by Medina’s wife Candy Montilla and Fernandez’ wife, Margarita Cedeño de Fernández, the country’s Vice President-Elect.

Fernandez said the two shared “views and perspectives on the economic, social and political situation of the Dominican Republic and the international stage.”

He described the meeting as a “cordial and pleasant dialogue.”

The meeting was also attended by current Vice President Rafael Alburquerque, Minister of the Presidency Cesar Pina Toribio, Economy Minister Temistocles Montas and Abel Rodriguez del Orbe, who is Fernandez’ legal consultant.

It was the first visit by Medina to the National Palace since he won the country’s national elections May 20.
