Honduras Tourism Minister Nelly Jerez Karina Caballero met with Organization of American States Assistant Secretary General Albert Ramdin Wednesday to disuse the “growing importance” of the tourism sector for economies in the region.

The Minister reiterated Honduras’ commitment to the OAS to serve as host of the 21st Inter-American Congress of Ministers and High-Level Tourism Authorities, which will take place next year.

Ramdin called on authorities in the tourism sector and business representatives in Central America to participate in the next regional tourism congress, which will be held in September in Quito, Ecuador, focusing on a theme of “conscientious tourism.”

The ASG emphasized the importance of collaboration between the countries of Central America and the Caribbean, urging them to work together toward greater integration in tourism.

That would include the elimination of visa requirements and the promotion of air and sea connectivity between the two subregions.
