Air carrier Fly Montserrat made its inaugural flight between Nevis and Montserrat Monday in what Montserrat’s tourist board hopes will increase travel between the islands.

The daily flights will spend a few minutes on the ground in Antigua before continuing to Montserrat.

“It is with great joy that Fly Montserrat will help bring travelers from Nevis to Antigua, which is a gateway to North American and many European countries,” Nevis Premier Joseph Parry said.

At present, there are only flights from Nevis to Antigua twice a week.

The inaugural flight hosted Alistair Yearwood, tourism advisor to Parry; Christine Williams of Kantours Travel Agency; Tyrone O’Flaherty, permanent secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and Kerry Williams of Nevis’ government information service.

Captain Nigel Harris, who along with Shelley Harris of Fly Montserrat spearheaded the initiative, said he was thankful for the support he had received from the tourism board.

Parry was on hand for the morning landing ceremony in Nevis.

Fly Montserrat is also reportedly considering a St Kitts route.
