The federation of St Kitts and Nevis is mourning the death of Dr Simeon Daniel, the first Premier of Nevis.

The country held a Requiem Mass for Daniel Sunday.

“Dr Simeon Daniel, the first Premier of Nevis, has left an indelible mark on the island of his birth, from the lives he touched as a result of his outstanding services as a lawyer, to the many ways in which his efforts served to transform the island of Nevis for the benefit of Nevisians,” said Prime Minister Dr Denzil Douglas.

Daniel was a founding member of the Nevis Reformation Party.

“With his passing, we mark the end of an important era,” Douglas said.

Daniel served as Premier from 1983 to 1992, succeeded by Vance Amory.

He also set up the Bank of Nevis, Ltd in 1985.
