Grenada Plans New Drug Rehab Centre

By the Caribbean Journal staff

Grenada’s government has earmarked a new drug therapeutic centre for St Andrew, according to senior planning officials in the Ministry of Health.

The Carlton House Drug Rehabilitation Centre is one of several capital projects the government plans to implement this year.

The planned multi-million-dollar facility will be constructed on the former site of the nurses’ hostel at Princess Hospital in Mirabeau.

Myrna Hagley, senior planning officer in the Ministry of Health, recently conducted a site visit of the area.

The previous facility, at Parade in St Paul’s, St George’s, was severely damaged by Hurricane X in September 2004.

The new facility would allow for a “major transformation” of service provided to patients, according to Joanna Humphrey, senior nursing officer for Mental Health Services.
