New Bahamas Prime Minister Perry Christie has announced eight new cabinet appointments, following the decision to name Philip Brave Davis as the country’s Deputy Prime Minister.

More will follow soon, according to the Prime Minister.

“These particular ministerial appointments have a critical bearing on the three most pressing issues facing the Bahamas today: crime, the economy and the need to revamp our educational system to better prepare our youth for the challenges that face them,” Christie said.

The first group of ministers will be sworn in Thursday afternoon.

Christie also announced that former Commodore of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force and former Ambassador Clifford “Butch” Scavella has been engaged to lead the establishment of a new body seeking to more efficiently coordinate intelligence gathering.

Former Central Bank Governor James Smith has also been engaged as a consultant to the Ministry of Finance.
