Guyana has sworn in Sandra Valerie Jones as a new commissioner of the Guyana Elections Commission.

Jones replaced the late Robert Williams, a former deputy mayor, who passed away in January.

Guyana President Donald Ramotar, who performed the ceremony, said GECOM now has a full complement of commissioners.

The President said he hoped the commission would meet as often as possible, calling it one of the most important institutions in Guyana.

In March, Jaya Manickchand was sworn in as a commissioner, replacing Moen Mc Doom.

Jones said she was honoured to be charged with the responsibilities of a commissioner.
