Following the Bahamas election results that returned the Opposition Progressive Liberal Party to power, Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham has resigned as leader of the Free National Movement.
Ingraham, known as “Papa,” had been leader of the FNM since 1990, and had previously served as Prime Minister from 1992 to 2002 , succeeding Sir Lynden Pindling, the country’s first post-independence leader.
Ingraham said he would return to private life and resign his seat in Parliament, despite reportedly winning 54 percent of the vote in Monday’s election.
He had represented the North Abaco constituency in Parliament.
He was succeeded in 2002 by Christie, who returned to power with Monday’s win.
