Continue a trip through Puerto Rico’s northern region to survey ongoing projects, Puerto Rico Governor Luis Fortuño visited the municipality of Corozal.
The area has received an economic boost of more than $144.9 million for the development of projects, including $21 million to transform its schools and address the need for vocational courses in the area.
Fortuño, who has been on a “Route of the North” to oversee projects initiated under his administration, announced the construction of the New Vocational School in the area.
According to the governor, for years, residents of Corozal have called for the construction of a vocational school but have been faced with a lack of alternatives.
“Today, we are pleased to respond to the claim for the allocation of $15,412,388 for the planing design and construction of this new school, which will impact about 650 students,” Fortuño said.
Construction is slated to begin in June, and projected to finish within 720 days.
Several schools have reportedly received funding in the area, including the Dr Jose Padin School and the SU Nicolas Rodriguez school.
The latter, which began construction in April, is expected to be completed this summer.
“This investment is more than an investment in infrastructure,” he said. “We are transforming an entire community. Our children will see the difference.”
Fortuño concluded his Corozal visit with a trip to Palmarito to oversee ongoing road resurfacing in the area, which has reportedly seen an investment of $2.9 million.
