Puerto Rico Governor Luis Fortuño concluded his trip across the northern part of the country Friday, looking at two schools under construction in the town of Toa Alta.
The projects, which came with a total investment of $31.5 million, were part of a recent $236.6 million investment aimed at helping citizens of Toa Alta.
“By modernizing and renovating schools throughout the island, we are investing in education and the future of our children and Puerto Rico,” Fortuño said. “These works will provide our teachers and students with a modern environment conducive to academic excellence and promoting learning.”
When completed in January 2013, one of the projects, a new middle school, will serve students from grades seven through nine.
The Nicolas Sevilla school is slated for completion in October 2012.
Fortuño’s trip included visits to cities including Camuy, Hatillo, Arecibo, Barceloneta, Manati, Vega Alta, Corozal and Vega Baja.
“As we witnessed during the past five days, the billion-dollar investment in the area north of the island represents a boost for economic development in the region,” Fortuño said. “Our goal is to ensure that all municipalities, without distinction, enjoy better roads, modern schools, safe communities and new employment opportunities.”
