Guyana is continuing rehabilitation works on the country’s Linden-Lethem road, which is passable despite difficult weather conditions, according to an engineer from the Public Works Ministry’s Work Services Group.
There are currently four maintenance contracts being executed in the Linden-Lethem area, which are slated for completion by the end of June.
The government said work still remains to be done in the Iwokrama concession on sections of bad patches and from Siparuni to Kurupukari, which are experiencing torrential rainfall.
The Linden-Lethem road project is part of a drive to improve closer relations with neighbouring Brazil.
Earlier this year, Guyana completed a feasibility study on the project.
While the road is one of the country’s most important transpiration networks, the unpaved nature of the road means rainfall can present significant challenges.
The ultimate goal is for a modern, paved road linking the capital, Georgetown, with the Brazilian city of Boa Vista.
